Ashoka Trust for Research in Ecology and the Environment (ATREE) (https://www.atree.org/) together with the University of Kashmir bring you a two-week Certificate Training Programme on the Interaction of Biodiversity and Climate Change in North Western India (Himalayan Region).

The programme revolves around the various concepts about the Western Himalayan biodiversity, interaction of climate change and biodiversity, hydrology, ecosystem services and functions, and social-ecological systems. 

It aims at enabling the participants to explain the concepts of biodiversity and its conservation as well as their applicability in the Himalayas.

Methods of training

The following methods will be used for imparting the training- lectures, skill building tools, group projects, discussions on topical issues, special talks, region specific case studies and talks on improving scientific writing. 

Participants will receive reading material to prepare for the lectures, discussions and special talks. 

Course structure:

First week: Lectures, topical talks, panel and group discussions, demonstration and hands on exposure to research tools along with daily sessions on the use of statistics (with the software R) and spatial analysis (with the software QGIS).

Second week: Field project where the participants will be designing the project, collecting and analysing data and presenting the results.

Who can apply?

The program is open for current post-graduate students (enrolled in a master’s or PhD programme in India), research scholars and early career professionals working with non-profits, government agencies, research institutions and academic centres in the Western Himalayas (only applicants from Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh and Kashmir will be considered)

The age limit is 35 years.

Duration: 24th June – 6th July, 2019 

Venue: University of Kashmir, Srinagar, Jammu & Kashmir.

Application Deadline: 31st May, 2019. Selected applicants will be notified directly by 7th June, 2019.

There is no fee for the workshop. Participants will be reimbursed for travel. Accommodation at the university hostels and food will be covered. The organizers will also provide the stationary and equipment for the field exercises and mini-projects.
