Objectives and Areas of Interest

With objectives of conservation education, conservation research and conservation action, Titli Trust seeks to create awareness on the need to develop and grow in a sustainable manner, protect our natural habitats and environment and bring about the necessary changes in lifestyles of people to support sustainability. The organization strives to contribute to the fund of human knowledge in the field of ecology, environment and conservation, by promoting the collection of natural history data among the general public. Titli also endeavours to support grass-root conservation action inside and outside protected areas by working with local communities to protect the local flora and fauna, support them in harnessing alternate sustainable eco-friendly livelihood options such as eco-tourism and address human-wildlife conflicts in an equitable fashion.

The Titli Trust actively supports conservation and livelihood programs in the Himalayas, also joining hands with the Nagaland Wildlife & Biodiversity Conservation Trust in its effort to save the Amur Falcons in Wokha district, which are largely hunted down by the locals as a source of livelihood. It is also involved in numerous citizen science programs like the Doon Nature Walks, a citizen science initiative set up along with Nature Science Initiative to get Doon citizens interested and aware of its city’s biodiversity and to come together to save it.

Titli also undertakes faunal surveys and bio-diversity assessments for birds, butterflies, moths and herpetofauna seeking to understand more about bio-diversity, initiate eco-tourism and conduct nature awareness programs.

Projects and Activities

With conservation and livelihood programs in multiple locations of Uttarakhand, Titli Trust brings about a diverse approach in each site, from capacity building for eco-tourisms and home-stays to bio-diversity assessments, site specific conservation programs and fund raising. Titli supports the local communities at Karwani and Siju in South Garo Hills, Meghalaya to promote eco-tourism. Titli Trust has also been supporting The Energy and Resource Institute, New Delhi in Zunheboto District of Nagaland in conducting biodiversity assessments and initiating an ecotourism venture.

Eaglenest, home to more than 185 species of butterflies, has also been a site of moth tour for the organization with a view to long-term monitoring and supporting the local communities in starting eco-tourism. The organization also carries out training programs for local villagers to promote community-based tourism on local flowers, trees and bird-watching at the Jabarkhet Estate in Mussoorie.
